From step-by-step food preparation to choosing the right kitchen gadgets and tools, Ready Set Prep is here to help you make great meals with ease. In the gingery shrimp and basil stir fry recipe, chef and author Kate McMillan teaches you how to make stir fry and how to clean shrimp—a skill applicable to a variety of dishes. To create this dish, start by deveining the shrimp. Using a paring knife, make a small incision on the back of the shrimp, then use the tip of the knife to remove the vein. Set aside, then use a chef's knife to chop the vegetables into pieces of roughly equal size, which helps ensure that they cook evenly. Next, make the stir fry sauce by whisking together the ingredients, adding more or less ginger and chili flakes to taste. To cook your basil stir fry, add the vegetables, shrimp and sauce to a preheated wok. Once cooked, top with fresh basil and serve immediately. You can also try adapting this recipe by adding your own favorite stir fry vegetables, such as water chestnuts, baby corn and bok choy. Now that you know how to make shrimp stir fry and which knives to use, put your knife skills to use on other show-stopping recipes.
