summary

Sangria is a classic wine-based beverage popular in Spain and Portugal. What makes the drink special is the addition of brandy and fresh fruit—in this case perfectly ripe summer strawberries and raspberries. This is not the time to use the most expensive wine or brandy since you are adding other flavors to the pitcher. It is best if you can let this summer sangria recipe refrigerate overnight so the fruit can macerate and the flavors can really develop. Use a glass pitcher if you have one so you can show off all the components of this beautiful drink.

ingredients

  • Ingredients
  • 1 (750 ml) bottle rosé wine
  • 1/4 cup brandy
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 2 lemons, sliced
  • 1 pint raspberries
  • 10 strawberries, hulled and halved
  • Sparkling water for serving
  • Mint for garnish

directions

  1. Combine in a large pitcher the rosé, brandy, sugar, lemons, raspberries and strawberries. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours, but overnight is best! When ready to serve, fill glasses with ice and pour sangria over ice. Top glasses with sparkling water and garnish with mint.

notes

Any rosé wine you like will do in this recipe. You can also use a light white wine such as a pinot grigio, riesling, moscato or sauvignon blanc.

Don’t add the sparkling water until you are serving so it keeps its effervescence.

Pour the sangria into glasses, but have tongs on hand to add fruit from the pitcher to each glass.

You can use other summertime fruits including nectarines, plums and peaches.
