Multi-Purpose Oval Casserole Dishes: Bakeware and Serveware
Oval casserole dishes go from oven to tabletop at mealtime. For everyday family meals, use a smaller capacity dish for sides such as macaroni and cheese, roasted potatoes and onions or baked mostaccioli. A larger one accommodates anything from roasts and fish fillets to enchiladas and desserts. Look for one with a lid for convenient broiling, as well. If you prefer the look of traditional cookware, opt for a white oval casserole dish with handles. For a different take, consider a bolder color—red or black make an impression at the dining table. When removing the dish from the oven, use fabric or silicone potholders for carrying it into the dining room. Then, set a trivet beneath it to protect the table. A set of coordinated serving utensils makes portioning out entrees and sides easy. When the meal is finished, pop your oval casserole dish into the dishwasher for easy clean-up.
