Brew Your Morning Coffee with a Manual Espresso Machine

Start your morning with a shot of espresso from manual espresso machines. With a manual espresso maker, you can control every aspect of your espresso shot. Having this much control over your espresso comes with a lot of patience and practice. However, you can create an espresso shot that rivals any cafe espresso with the right manual machine and technique. To make manual espresso, start by preheating your machine. Prepare the portafilter with freshly ground coffee beans from a coffee grinder—scoop the grounds into the basket, level and tamp the grounds to create a compact puck. Insert the portafilter into the group head of the espresso machine to lock it into place and begin brewing. For lever machines, pull down on the lever to raise the piston and activate the extraction process; for manual pump machines, operate the manual pump handle to build pressure. Monitor your manual espresso extraction to ensure it’s flowing evenly and at the desired rate, and once complete release the lever or stop pumping to halt the brewing process. If you’re making milk-based drinks like lattes or cappuccinos, use a steam wand to froth and steam milk to your preferred texture before pouring it into your extracted espresso. After use, remove the portafilter, discard the used coffee grounds and rinse the portafilter and group head with clean water. With practice and experimentation, you’ll be able to fine-tune your technique and achieve delicious espresso shots with your manual espresso machine. Whether using portable hand espresso makers or manual pump and lever ones, shop from the best manual espresso machines like Delonghi espresso machines and Jura espresso machines.
