View CartIf selfie was the word of 2013, consider shelfie our word of 2020. #shelfie is a popular hashtag filled with photos of aesthetically pleasing shelves of books, dinnerware, beauty items or decor. But what is it about shelves that has motivated almost 2 million people to use the hashtag? We think shelves are the most fun to style, whether their use is functional or to display your most beloved decor. There is also something soothing about a beautifully styled shelf, a skill some might feel they’ve yet to master. If you’ve got some empty shelves and some extra time, follow along with Christine Higgs (_@forthehome) as she shares her best shelf styling tips.
1) Use decor with a cohesive color palette. I tend to gravitate toward earth tones—greens, creams, browns and greys.
2) Start with one section and build off of that. This will be your focal point!
3) Alternate heights and color throughout the shelves. I also like to place objects in front of each other to create depth!
4) Incorporate natural elements and textures to make the shelves feel cozy and homey.
5) Take a step back often to check your progress!
