summary
There is something so warm and cozy about a bourbon-based cocktail recipe. An old-fashioned is a true classic, but we’ve given it a bit of a campfire twist with the addition of ginger beer. The toasted marshmallow garnish is optional but it sure does set the mood for a cozy fall evening.
ingredients
- ½ ounce fresh orange juice
- ½ ounce simple syrup
- 2 dashes bitters
- 2 ounces bourbon
- 2 ounces ginger beer
- Orange peel for garnish
- 2 marshmallows, toasted, optional
directions
- Pour the orange juice, simple syrup, bitters and bourbon into a cocktail glass and stir with a bar spoon to combine. Fill the glass with ice and then top with ginger beer. Garnish with an orange peel and serve at once. If serving with the toasted marshmallows, thread them on a cocktail pick or skewer and lay across the top of the drink.
notes
Ginger beer is nonalcoholic so it’s a nice way to add flavor and make this stiff cocktail a bit more mellow.
To toast marshmallows, use a skewer and hold them over an open gas flame on the stovetop. Alternatively, toast them for 1–2 minutes under the oven broiler.
Substitute lemon peel for the orange peel, if you prefer.
