summary
This super-simple cocktail comes together quickly and is such a showstopper. It is also absolutely delicious! With so few ingredients, you will want to use top-shelf gin, which will make a noticeable difference. Serve in a rocks glass or double old-fashioned glass so you can see the beautiful purple hue from the muddled blackberries.
ingredients
- 4 blackberries, plus more for garnish
- 2 ounces gin
- ¾ ounce fresh lemon juice
- ¾ ounce simple syrup (see recipe below)
- Mint leaves, optional garnish
directions
- To make simple syrup, place ¼ cup sugar and ¼ cup water in a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir until the sugar dissolves and then turn off the heat. Allow to cool completely.
- Place the blackberries in the bottom of a cocktail shaker and muddle. Add the gin, lemon juice and simple syrup along with 1 cup of ice. Shake well and strain into a rocks glass. Fill the glass to the top with crushed ice and garnish with additional blackberries and a sprig of mint, if desired.
- Let the pie cool completely before serving.
notes
The simple syrup recipe is equal parts water to sugar, so you can adjust to make any amount you want. Simple syrup will keep in the refrigerator for a couple of weeks. If you don’t have a cocktail shaker, use a mason jar with a tight-fitting lid. If you don’t have a muddler, use the end of a wooden spoon handle. Love mint? Add a few leaves to the cocktail shaker and muddle along with the blackberries.
