summary
This stunning cocktail is the perfect summer spritz. With just three ingredients, the cocktail’s star is Amaro, a bitter Italian liqueur with notes of citrus. There are many to choose from, but we especially love an Amaro Nonino for its deep color and incredible flavor.
ingredients
- 2 ounces Amaro
- 3 ounces chilled prosecco
- Chilled sparkling water
- 1 orange
directions
- Fill a large wine glass with ice. Pour in the Amaro, then the prosecco. Top off with sparkling water and gently stir.
- Using a vegetable peeler, cut a 2-inch long strip of the peel. Try to cut as thin as possible to avoid the white pith. Express the peel over the top of the drink and then add it to the cocktail. Enjoy at once.
notes
This is one of those “keep it simple” recipes. Amaro is not inexpensive, so you want to let it shine!
Ice is essential to a proper spritz. This is meant to be a summer cocktail, so fill the glass all the way up with ice!
Prosecco is the traditional Italian sparkling wine, but you can use any dry sparkling wine in this Amaro Spritz recipe.
Expressing the peel means to release the fragrant oils.
Do not pour this cocktail until you are ready to serve, as you want to keep those bubbles!
